I mean, you're in Denver? Why not eat at the oldest establishment in the city? AND it's got simply THE most amazing interior chock full of taxidermy. Whale penis bone that takes up the entire ceiling! JACKALOPES!! Oh and the food is outstanding as well. Bison ribeye is my go-to, but all the meats (exotic and other) are excellent. And if you've never before, kinda GOTTA try the Rocky Mountain Oysters.

From start to finish-top notch! Friendly faces greeted us as we were promptly escorted to our tables. The history and ambiance was rustic and everything we expected. The food was beautifully prepared and represented well on the menu. We ate 1/2 of every course as the portion sizes were bigger than expected and wanted to save room for the next course. Living out of state I will make an effort to revisit if I am back in Colorado. Highly recommended!

If there is only one place that every person must try for dinner in Denver it is this place. The oldest restaurant in Denver. It is like stepping back in time. Incredible ambiance... and the food is above rock solid. The meats and game and fowl were all perfectly prepared. The portions were large and satisfying. Give it a go... you must try it!

We sat at 4 pm right after they opened. Atmosphere was cool! Showcasing hundreds of thousands of different hunted animals including elks, deers, birds, etc. service was friendly and our server recommended us to go to the 2/F to take pics with the hunted animals. Foods were a brand new experience to me and I've ordered Rocky Mountain oysters! First time had this dish and surprisingly it was good. Thanks to this restaurant for an amazing experience!

Oldest bar in Colorado! Amazing history behind this restaurant. The inside is filled with taxidermy animals and feels like you are in a museum. Would not recommend for vegetarians as the menu is primarily meat. Our waitress was very nice and she gave us free dessert because we did wait on our second drinks for a while. The quail was my favorite bite, followed by the apple pie, and sausage appetizer. After eating make sure to walk around downstairs and upstairs taking in all the restaurant has to offer!

Buckhorn exchange is a slice of history along with a good meal. There is no shortage of things to look at here. From Teddy Rosevelt's gun, to a large amount of taxidermy, or Colorado's first liquor license, and many photos from the turn of the century. It really is as much a museum as it is Denver's oldest restaurant. The ambiance and history alone are worth checking it out. However, it places a premium on this and the experience is what you pay for. The food itself is good, but lacks any strong flavor or defining characteristics. The most flavorful thing I had was the homemade ranch. The steaks and ribs are all cooked well and true to request, but are just a bit bland. The service was outstanding. From the hostess who gave us a history lesson on the way to our table, to the busters who kept our drinks full, to our waitress who made sure we had everything we needed. Top notch! The price is up there with some of the best top end steakhouses and will limit many repeat customers. TL:DR - If you're ok with spending up worth it for the experience. Mediocre food but a great time.
